Prospects and Development
Agriculture is a key sector of the Republic of Moldova. Out of the country’s total area of 33,700 km², agricultural land accounts for approximately 2.03 million hectares, of which 1.94 million hectares are arable, predominantly chernozem soils, especially in the northern regions. These natural conditions allow for the cultivation of a wide range of agricultural crops.
Despite the high soil potential, average yields currently stand at approximately 3 tons per hectare, significantly below Western European levels (8–10 tons per hectare). Increasing yields even to half of the European average would potentially double or triple production volumes, creating new opportunities for business growth, export expansion, and cost optimization.
